The Nikon D80 packs high performance and high resolution into a body that is more compact and slimmer than previous Nikon digital SLR cameras. It offers features and performance that used to cost hundreds of dollars more. We’re seeing the result of Nikon’s intent to have a commonality of parts – almost everything you see on the camera shares some similarity with other Nikon models. Besides the legacy from the Nikon D200 and up, the camera also shares the 420-segment meter from the Nikon D50, and a complete line of accessories which draws from both the Nikon D50 and Nikon D70s systems.
The camera body is technically slightly smaller in all dimensions compared to those of the D70s, but current owners will find the design very similar. Most of the buttons are the same and in the same places, and there are dedicated buttons for many commonly used functions. Based on the award-winning image quality, high performance and user-friendliness of the D70, the Nikon D70s offers several refinements that will further enhance your digital SLR experience. The D70s employs the same 6.1 effective megapixel, Nikon DX Format sensor that yields 3,008 x 2,000-pixel images that are suitable for making large prints. We found the D70s to have superb image quality and vibrant colors from ISO 200 to ISO 800. Even at ISO 1600 the image quality is smooth and extremely low visual noise noise. Its autofocus is extremely fast in bright light and still very fast in moderately low light, but it lags the competition slightly at very low light levels.
